Baby wearing is one of the great joys and conveniences of early parenting. With so many different styles and brands to choose from, the selection process can seem overwhelming.
This guide will quickly give you some of the basics of what you need to know and a few of the top brands. One thing that stood out to me in my research into organic baby carriers, is that there aren’t as many organic, eco-friendly options as I thought there would be.
Most eco-friendly baby products have numerous organic versions, but there seemed to be very few in the organic baby carrier space. Luckily, we were able to find some, amazing, brands that use certified organic materials.

Benefits of An Organic Baby Carrier
If you aren’t sure whether you want to go to the organic baby carrier route, here are some of the main benefits:
- It is a great way to bond with your baby.
- It frees up your hands so that you can remain productive while cuddling your bundle of joy.
- Helps soothe colicky babies
- Allows for more discrete nursing in public.
And why an organic baby carrier instead of a regular one? Because organic is better for the environment.
Types of Baby Carriers
There are a number of different types of baby carriers, but most of them fall into 3 main categories:
- Soft-Structured Carriers: These are the easiest and most versatile type of baby carrier. They have shoulder and waist straps. Your baby clips in pretty easily and most can be adjusted to front or rear facing. The majority of them can be used for newborns all the way to toddlers. The main con’s against these types of carriers are they are a bit more expensive and harder to clean.
- Sling Rings- These are worn over the shoulder and fastened with two metal rings. They are good for Newborns and not as complicated to wear as wraps.
- Wraps- A long piece of fabric that you use to wrap around yourself and baby. Wraps are typically cheaper and use less material, which is a plus for the environmentally friendly parents. Some parents swear by them, but to others they seems like a master’s class in origami.
Here are the instructions for a typical baby wrap:

Now that you know the basics about the benefits and types of organic baby wraps, lets jump right into the best brands.
